Modelling for games (Basic)

– with main focus on character design/creation.

3 weeks, full time

You will get to:

  • Gain basic modelling skills and a clear understanding of texture mapping.
  • Obtain a deeper appreciation of the graphic work that is put into any game production.
  • Create a roughly humanoid game character for a FPS game (first person shooter) and make it ready for animation. This could be a barbarian warrior, orc, zombie, cowboy, terminator or whatever your fantasy suggests.

About the course:

  • Three intense weeks.
  • Course-work is mostly done in the 3ds Max software.
  • For everyone that is interested in making graphics for game production.
  • No need to have 3D skills in advance. The daily teaching will provide all the knowledge needed.

Specific course topics:

  • Organic character modelling for games.
  • UV unwrapping.
  • Texture baking.
  • Texture mapping in Photoshop.
  • Pixel painting in the 3D-coat software.
  • Creation of morph targets for facial expressions etc.
  • Skinning the model to the 3ds Max default human rig (Biped).
  • Creation of corrective morph targets.
